- Aram Lenserovich, is it true that men are more likely to postpone a visit to the dentist, in other words, are more afraid of the dentist than women?

- Yes, and this has a certain background. The fact is that society demands more from men, and boys are just as sensitive to pain, especially in childhood, as girls. Boys are expected to be patient - you have to, you are a hero. And, of course, this leaves its mark. In my practice, men, if they are afraid of the dentist, are seriously afraid. They postpone treatment as much as possible and greatly neglect the situation. This is especially true for the older generation. For young men, this is not so relevant, they are a product of a different time, a time of treatment with anesthesia. They do not remember these scary drills, and the experience is generally much more positive.

- In your experience, are men more likely than women to lose teeth due to injury?

- You know, it's the other way around! Sadly, it's mostly women who come to us with knocked-out or lost teeth - slipped in the bathroom, fell in high-heeled shoes. It happens very often - a child, sitting in his mother's arms, can suddenly shake his head and knock out her teeth. And men - now among our patients you won't find one who would lose teeth in a fight.

- How quickly can the problem of tooth loss be solved, especially if it is a front tooth, which is very noticeable?

- In such a situation, one-stage implantation saves: an implant is immediately installed in place of the removed injured tooth, if necessary, gum and bone tissue are grafted and a crown is put on, with which a person can calmly recover, and others will not notice anything.

- Are there any dental problems that are more common for men than for women?

- Yes, there are. And first of all, it is increased tooth wear. Of course, it occurs with women, too, but in case of men it is hypertrophied. Some patients have teeth that are worn down to the gum line.

- What is this connected with?

- Unfortunately, it is impossible to give a definite answer to this question. The first and main factor is grinding and clenching of teeth. I think that the emotional background in which a person lives plays a very important role here. It is believed that if you change your lifestyle, then this habit will change too, because it is, of course, a habit.

- But changing the emotional background is not so easy! Are there any other ways to help such patients?

- It must be said that there are not many of them, but they are very effective. These are special dental pads, mouth guards, and restoration of particularly worn teeth using ceramic inlays and crowns. The doctor's task is to restore the teeth to their original state, and this is a very hard job, because we no longer see what the teeth were like before, but only what is left of them. Now computer technologies help to solve this problem, which build a 3D model of the patient's dentition taking into account his anatomical data and individual characteristics.

- Do you think the American fashion for radically white teeth has caught on in Armenia? What is the current trend in this area?

- Judging by what I see, it has caught on, and even very much so. The color "bleach", very whitened, is in high demand.

- But not everyone can have their teeth whitened to the color of sanitary white ?

- Of course, not everyone. At a young age, teeth whitening is more effective, and after 50, achieving the "bleach" shade with whitening alone is no longer useful. And if a person wants to look better, younger, then, of course, we will talk about protezing, about veneers.
